Guide to Setting Up and Using Windows 10 Storage Spaces

Windows 10 OS provides an array of features and tools, such as brand-new preset applications, Edge, Microsoft Store, etc. Storage Spaces is a feature that was first launched in Windows 8. It allows users to assemble different kinds of drives into one storage pool, and it can be utilized for creating storage spaces.

Steps for creating storage spaces
Creating a new storage space is not a hard task. Follow the instructions given below and set up a storage space on your Windows 10 computer.
  1. Firstly, you need to launch Settings.
  2. After that, press the System option.
  3. Now, choose Storage from the left column.
  4. Hit the Manage Storage Spaces option below More storage settings.
  5. Now, press the Change Settings option.
  6. When the User Account Control prompt appears, press the Yes option.
  7. Now, select the Storage Pool.
  8. Click on Create storage space.
  9. Key in the name you wish to use for the selected storage space.
  10. Choose a drive letter from the drop-down list.
  11. Click on the drop-down next to File system and select between NTFS and REFS.
  12. Now, you need to select the resiliency type.
  13. Choose the maximum size for the storage space.
  14. After making all the changes, click on the Create storage space at the bottom.
Steps for creating multiple storage spaces
In case you wish to set up another storage space, then firstly, you need to launch Start.
  1. Enter Storage space in the search bar and click on it.
  2. Now, go to Storage Pool.
  3. Select Create a storage space option.
  4. Make the appropriate selections.
  5. Hit the Create storage space option for completing the procedure.
Adding more drives to the storage pool
Whenever you wish to add one more drive to your storage pool, you can follow the instructions given here:
  1. Go to Storage Spaces.
  2. Click on Manage Storage Spaces.
  3. Select the Storage Pool.
  4. Click on Add drives.
  5. Choose the appropriate drive.
  6. Hit the Add drives option.
  7. Now, click the Add drives button located at the bottom.
Removing a drive from the Storage Pool
Do you want to remove a drive from the storage pool? Follow these instructions:
  1. Launch Start.
  2. Locate Storage Spaces.
  3. Click on it.
  4. Go to Physical drives.
  5. Press the Prepare for removal link.
  6. Ensure that the selected drive is the right one.
  7. Hit the Prepare for removal button located at the bottom.
  8. Now, go back to the drive that needs to be removed.
  9. Hit the Remove button.
  10. Click on the same option for completing the removal process.
Deleting a Storage Space
Whatever the reason may be, if you wish to remove a storage space, then follow the instructions given here:
  1. Launch the Start menu.
  2. Locate Storage spaces.
  3. Click on it.
  4. Go to the Storage Spaces heading.
  5. Select the space you wish to delete.
  6. Hit the Delete button.
  • Note: Create a backup beforehand if you do not wish to lose the data forever.
  1. Now, hit the Delete storage space button.
